That pigeon on the window ledge has seen this umbrella before. Not this specific umbrella, perhaps, but one like it, discarded in the same way, against a similar grey cabinet, in this specific kind of light. It understands the posture of things that are forgotten, the casual finality of being propped against something indifferent. The umbrella, by its slack form, already accepts this fate, it is no longer waiting to be remembered. It is simply there, part of the office landscape, an accidental monument to a minor lapse. There is a slow, quiet surrender in its form, an acceptance that some objects, like some intentions, simply run out of useful life and settle into the quiet background.
