The Orange Trawlers — abstract work by Wariara Githinji — MODULAR · 13 × 18 cm limited edition of 10

About the work

Sometimes the world feels like it’s just finishing something up. Not beginning, not even really in the middle, but at that exact point where the effort has just about ceased. The last of the lifting. The last light of the day before the full dark. The way a shadow keeps its shape for a moment longer than it should, holding the ghost of the thing that cast it. This isn't about the act itself, but the slow settling after, the objects left behind to testify. A single gull knows this rhythm, its small, quick motions entirely separate from the larger work, yet entirely part of its aftermath. It’s an attention given to what remains, rather than what has just passed. A slow understanding of things having just been used. A study in Weary resignation and Unyielding persistence held in the same frame. In dialogue with 1990s Xerox art documentation.
