Spilling the Coffee — print by Anya Pietrowski — MODULAR · 13 × 18 cm limited edition of 10

About the work

The coffee was lukewarm, a concession to the fear of spilling it on the freshly washed duvet cover. She had been trying to get this shot for twenty minutes, the light always a little off, the smile never quite right. There was a narrative she wanted to project, something about effortless domesticity, but the effort was considerable, the warmth of the coffee seeping into the synthetic fabric of the duvet. The stain is still there, a pale brown echo of a moment that wasn't as casual as it looked. No one online ever asked about the stain.
