About the work
He had been carrying that can for an hour, maybe two, without taking a sip. It was cold when he pulled it from the cooler this morning, or at least cool enough for the condensation to bead on the aluminum. Now it was just a little heavier than air. The can was for thirst, and he wasn't thirsty, only tired. Later, back in the truck, he would open it, but only so he could crush the empty against the steering wheel. That was the only release left.
