About the work
There are some objects that you encounter at a complete remove, and others that seem to follow you, turning up in the unlikeliest places. The things of domestic life, especially. A hot air balloon is, in this sense, a distant, floating thing, the sort of sight you point at with a child. It is an event. And then there are things that resist being an event, that are just there, having made a long and circuitous journey to nowhere in particular, like a shopping cart in a field. It might be a landmark. It might be a monument. But only for itself.
