About the work

The kayaker bought the flowers at the supermarket on the way here. They had been advertised as ‘Celebration Blooms,’ and he liked the irony. He liked the quiet defiance of placing something so tender and temporary against such a monumental ruin, especially with the smell of chlorine from the active park next door. He had even considered buying one of the tiny birthday cakes, but thought that might be a step too far. He wonders if the flowers will still be here tomorrow, or if the wind will have scattered them across the cracked concrete.
