About the work
The bear was left there by someone’s younger sister, in a fit of melodramatic pique, a week ago. She knew he wouldn’t have the heart to throw it away, even though he was too old for it. It usually sits on his desk, a silent witness to overdue essays and late-night calls. Tonight, it has been relocated, propped up with intention, like a sentry. It is a stand-in, a proxy for the anxious younger sibling they left behind, the one who wasn't old enough to be here.
