About the work

The pigeon is entirely unconcerned with the grandiloquence unfolding behind it. It pecks with a singular focus, finding sustenance where the human drama finds only an echoing silence. The dented parking meter, too, stands as a testament to countless small impacts, none of which registered with the intensity of this current, unrequited performance. What is it about effort, precisely, that makes us crave a witness? The sheer weight of the scrap metal, its unyielding form, becomes a kind of physical punctuation mark on the unacknowledged labor. We are left with the peculiar emptiness that follows a sustained exertion, where the energy expended hasn’t found its expected recipient, leaving only the residue of its own making. This is the peculiar paradox of the stage that is everywhere, and nowhere.
