About the work
The roller skate was a gift. It was one of a pair, a birthday surprise that came in a large, brightly wrapped box. Its twin, probably, is still upstairs, in the flat this photographer just left, under a pile of clothes, or maybe fallen behind the bed. This one came out by accident, forgotten, clinging to the cuff of a trouser leg. Now it sits, abandoned, documenting its own small history. It feels like the night is only just beginning for this particular skate, though the photographer is long past done.
