About the work
The chain securing the ramp is heavy, thick with salt and rust, and carries the weight of a hundred crossings. It has been lifted and dropped, tightened and slackened, by a hundred different hands. The pickup truck, too, has its own history of dents and repairs, each a story of impact and resilience. There is a curious symmetry here, between the brute functionality of the chain and the worn utility of the truck, both bearing the marks of their ceaseless work. One wonders about the point at which an object, through sheer repetition of purpose, transcends its simple task to become something almost sacred in its endurance. It is not beauty, nor design, but the deep accretion of time and touch that grants such things their quiet, undeniable gravity.
