About the work

The gravel underfoot is not natural to this place; it was brought in, spread out, a temporary surface over something still hardening underneath. It catches the light, each fleck a tiny mirror reflecting the sudden gleam of a satin skirt, a borrowed elegance that won't last. The scuff marks on the boots suggest a history of deliberate movement, of covering ground, perhaps even of choosing this specific, unforgiving terrain. There is a sense that the weight of the moment is carried not by the finery, but by the groundedness of those worn soles. It makes one consider how much effort goes into creating a space for joy, how much deliberate labor lies beneath even the most spontaneous expressions. The dust that rises with each shuffle is a testament to this, a fine powder of what was, mingling with the shimmer of what is.
