About the work

Someone brought that banana from home this morning, peeled it in the lunchroom, and carried it all the way out here. They must have intended to eat it while standing, watching the light hit the dust, maybe before heading to the locker room. The discarded glove, too, has a certain dignity, a collapsed monument to the day's hard work. I keep thinking about the journey of that banana, how it travelled through the city in a bag, a briefcase, maybe a back pocket, to this specific, quiet moment on a concrete floor. What changed between the intention to eat it and the careful placement on the floor?
