About the work

The balloon, improbable against the ochre wall, has come from somewhere else. It is a sign of a party, a celebration, a moment of joy now dispersed, leaving behind only this bright, deflated remnant. The burro, unmoving, tethered to the post, is a creature of endurance, a silent witness to countless such fleeting human gestures. There is a disjunction here, a minor clash of registers: the temporary festivity of the balloon against the enduring, patient presence of the animal. We gather up these bright fragments, these incidental souvenirs, and they stick to us, to the landscape, creating an unintentional history. The wind, or perhaps a child, let go. And here it is.
