Someone spent good money on that shoe, probably. A few months of savings, perhaps, or a birthday gift from someone who didn’t really know her size. Maybe she just *wanted* it to fit. So it rubbed, it pinched, and then one day, it just gave out. She could have kicked it off in anger, in pain, or just because the light was fading, and her Uber was waiting, and it was simply easier to leave it. But that broken heel, the way it leans, suggests a sudden, involuntary surrender.
