About the work

The child has never known a world without this costume. It wasn't a Halloween outfit, not for her. This was just how she dressed. Every morning, the helmet went on, the oversized gloves were pulled over her small hands, and she became an astronaut, even if it was just for a trip to the bodega for cereal. Sometimes she would ask, gravely, if the flakes were from ‘Earth-bound wheat.’ She didn’t really care about the answer, only the sound of her own voice forming the question. It’s hard to tell if the pirates are indulging her, or if they’ve simply learned to ignore the quiet hum of her space-suit’s oxygen recycler.
