About the work

The sherwani, a garment of meticulous craft and significant expense, feels suddenly weightless here. It is designed for stillness, for ceremony, for photographs, yet it billows and strains with each swing of the taped racket. There is a curious generosity in how the heavy fabric yields to this absurdity, allowing itself to be recontextualized without complaint. One imagines the threads themselves, woven for decorum, now stretching to accommodate an errant backhand, finding a new kind of grace in movement. This willingness to be transformed, to be momentarily free of its intended purpose, suggests a subtle anarchy inherent in all beautiful things. It’s as if the garment, too, understands that true value lies not in its prescribed use, but in the joy it accidentally contains.
